What does good design do?
Living spaces are personal. They should “feel” like home — YOUR home — not just a pretty house you see in a magazine where anonymous people do obligatory things. Your house needs to have the character and personality and priorities that are unique to you. THAT is what will make your interior design both look beautiful and live beautifully, too. The jumping off point for a design project is not just finding the furnishing and fixtures that look good in the space, but sourcing things that connect you to your life, your history, your aspirations, your dreams. The things in your house should bring you (and your family and friends) comfort and joy. And they should work to make your life better, easier, more comfortable. They should be smart choices that can help you grow and change gracefully. Design is not plug-and-play. It requires conversations, lots of listening, constant wondering, loads of brainstorming, days and nights of searching. It’s pretty easy to create the generic “dream home” from a universal recipe that would be just fine for millions of people out there. It is a much more exciting challenge to create something that is the dream of this one unique family of individuals who will live and love and thrive for years in this one beautiful house.
